Benton County Government welcomes Melody Kwok as the new County’s new Communications Director, effective January 18th, 2022. is taking over the position from Channing Barker who left the County in November, 2021. Barker was the first to hold the position, which was created by Benton County Judge Barry Moehring in 2017. Melody comes to Benton County after previously working for the Gravette School District as the communications and technology specialist. She also worked for 40/29 News (KHBS/KHOG) as a producer and prior to that as a photographer/editor. Today, Governor Asa Hutchinson announced the first positive case of COVID19 in Ben-ton County. As we have communicated to employees and the public, we have implemented many preventive measures against the COVID-19 outbreak. Our internal strategies began in February as we started using new cleaning methods, installed Purell hand sanitizer dispensers at all county facilities and placed UV air purifiers in our buildings. Out of an abundance of caution and to prevent further spread of COVID19, the April 10th Jury Orientation has been cancelled. Those summoned will still be included in the Benton County Circuit Court 2nd Term Petit Jury pool which includes the months of May – August. This means those who were summoned will still be subjected to being called to serve on a jury trial during these months. Two runoff elections will take place starting on March 24th for State Representative 90 and State Representative 91. Voters will be eligible to vote in this runoff election if they live in one of those districts and only if they voted a republican, nonpartisan ballot or did not vote at all in the March 3rd primary election. Voters who voted a democratic ballot cannot legally vote in this republican primary runoff.
